    Get moving in the park with Luana Dias David and community members before enjoying a performance by the Philadelphia-based Hood Lockers.

    5:45-6:15pm: Community Zumba® class with Luana Dias David
    Born in Brazil, Luana is a dance coach, choreographer, fitness instructor, and certified personal trainer who has taught and performed both nationally and internationally. Her dance philosophy and style are inspired by break dance, samba, capoeira, and ballet.

    6:30pm: Performance by The Hood Lockers
    Formed in 2005, The Hood Lockers are an internationally known dance group with a shared enthusiasm for street dance. Their work and performance center on the “cultural preservation and progression of Locking,” and they aim to serve as educators, inspiration, and influencers of hip hop culture.

    Immediately following the performance, all are invited to the community dance circle led by the Hood Lockers and in collaboration with The Wandering Dance Society.

  • Hip Hop Community Workshop in Pittsfield with Versa-Style Dance Company

    Join Alli Gray-Odeniyide and Brandon Allen Juezan-Williams (aka Beast Boi) from the Los Angeles-based dance company Versa-Style and share in their passion for Street Dance by learning the fundamentals of Hip Hop. This free workshop explores the foundations of the style, including the rhythm and timing of movements, grooves, vocabulary, and cultural and historical contexts. Participants will engage these fundamentals in choreography and freestyle. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done here. Walk-ups are welcome, pending capacity.

    An interactive workshop rooted in story-telling and building community. Come prepared to write, move, remember, listen and feel. The Fishtrap Method is a collaborative creative process developed by McGregor as part of her decade-long exploration of her father’s vanishing fishing tradition and three driving questions that emerged after she left her ancestral home, St. Croix: What do we take with us? Leave behind? Return to Reclaim?

  • Community Workshop in Pittsfield: Jazz with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks

    Join Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD) educator Joanne Baker for an all levels workshop that will incorporate rhythm, community, and musical connection. DJD is a Canadian jazz dance company that is dedicated to honoring and promoting the rich history of jazz dance while existing to meaningfully contribute to the future of the form. Participants will be led through a “follow along” warm up, circle dances, and a learned movement sequence. Come find your groove with DJD!

    Then, catch Decidedly Jazz Danceworks on the Henry J. Leis Stage at Jacob’s Pillow for an exhilarating performance from Wednesday, August 9 through Saturday, August 12 at 6 PM. Tickets for this performance start at $45.

    Everyone is invited to this free, kid-friendly, all-ages Friday afternoon, featuring performances by Hatchery Dance Company, Studio 860, and Zehnder Dance, movement classes, dance-themed children’s activities, face painting, a drum circle, crafts, story time, popcorn, cotton candy, and more.

    The afternoon outdoor Henry J. Leir Stage celebrates Berkshire-region dance artists, selected through an open call. Artists this year will include Qualia Dance Collective, Ian Spencer Bell, 860 MVMNT, and Sayer Mansfield. (NOTE: There is no minimum price for this Choose What You Pay event)
